CO₂ Level 3 Performance Ladder

Since February 2, 2024, we have obtained the certificate for the CO2 Performance Ladder, level 3.

The CO2 Performance Ladder is the designated instrument for us to map our CO2 emission inventory or CO2 footprint, pursue CO2 reduction, and actively realize this with stakeholders around us. This is a reason for us to obtain certification. More information about the CO2 Performance Ladder can be found at www.SKAO.nl.

Insight into Consumption

The CO2 emissions from our vehicle fleet and energy consumption of our building are the most relevant. For 2022 and 2023, we see the following:

Our vehicle fleet produces 59% of our emissions in 2023 (was 66% in 2022);
Building electricity consumption is 28% in 2023 (was 30% in 2022);
Emissions from air travel are minimal

Emissions in 2023 per 1 Million Revenue:

  • Scope 1: 14,384 tons CO2 (2022: 16,088 tons CO2)
  • Scope 2: incl. Business travel: 6,378 tons CO2 (2022: 8,172 tons CO2)

Emissions in 2023 per FTE on an Annual Basis

  • Scope 1: 3,131 tons CO2 (2022: 3,430 tons CO2)
  • Scope 2 incl. Business travel: 1,388 CO2. (2022: 1,742 tons CO2)

Largest Emission Sources:

  • The business vehicle fleet;
  • Office electricity consumption;
  • Office gas consumption.

Objectives

We strive to further reduce our emissions. The main objectives in this regard are:

  • In addition to electrification of the vehicle fleet, we focus on efficient driving and making the right choices for our vehicle fleet.
  • We are investigating whether we can generate our own green electricity with solar panels and as of March 2024, we will switch to green electricity

For scope 1 we have set ourselves the goal of achieving the following reductions compared to 2022: in 2023: 5%, in 2024: 7.5%, in 2025: 10%. In 2023, emissions in absolute terms were 3.5% lower than in 2022, with the note that the vehicle fleet was expanded by 2 cars. Per 1 million revenue, emissions were 14,384 tons CO2 (2022: 16,088 tons CO2) approximately 10.6% lower. Per FTE, emissions were 3,131 tons CO2 (2022: 3,430 tons CO2) approximately 8.7% lower. The reduction target has been achieved.

For scope 2, including business travel, our goal is to achieve a reduction compared to 2022 of 5% in 2023, 20% in 2024, and 25% in 2025. In 2023, the reduction in absolute terms decreased by 16.3% compared to 2022. Per 1 million revenue, emissions were 6,378 tons CO2 (2022: 8,172 tons CO2) approximately 21.9% lower. Per FTE, emissions were 1,388 tons CO2 (2022: 1,742 tons CO2) approximately 20.3% lower. This means the target was amply achieved.
