Bulletproof Windows2025-10-30T13:52:28+01:00

You do not want to turn your establishment into a dark bunker. Openness and transparency are very popular with architects and your employees. But does the nature of your organization also entail the necessary risks of incidents such as shootings? With bulletproof glass and frames, you make your windows a robust part of your structural security.

All about Bulletproof Windows

Bulletproof glass (also known as safety glass, laminated glass, or bullet-resistant glass) consists of multiple layers of glass, separated by a clear plastic layer (PVB). In addition to its bulletproof properties, this glass is generally also soundproof and blocks most UV radiation. The frames of bulletproof windows are also not standard. Particularly the connection between the different elements (glass, crossbar, frame, sash, sill, lock, cylinder, etc.) is important for the resistance class. We are Happy to Advise You!

Variants of Bulletproof Glass

The composition of the glass depends on the resistance class it must meet. There are also non-splintering and splintering variants. The splintering variant will stop bullets during a shooting without releasing splinters on the inside. This is safer for the people in your building! Glass with a PVB interlayer is also referred to as Splitting (or splintering). If the same glass is equipped with a polycarbonate layer on the inside, this same window is Non-splitting (non-splintering). Additionally, there is a variant that consists entirely of polycarbonate. This is also Non-splitting and at the same time much lighter than the aforementioned variants. This is particularly advantageous for use in vehicles or, for example, windows on floors of large buildings.

Standards for Bulletproof Windows

Standards have been established for bulletproof glass. As a basis, we use the European standards EN 1522-1523. However, a standardized product says nothing about the quality of your overall protection. We ensure that all measures are built in balance and coherence with each other, so you can always provide the resistance and delay that is important for your organization. Resistance Class of Bulletproof Windows

For the definition of resistance classes of bulletproof windows, several factors are important; consider the type of ammunition, the weapon, the firing speed, the number of shots, and the distance from which shots are fired. The EN 1522-1523 includes the classes FB1-FB7, SG1-2
and AK47 . According to the standards, these resistance classes are tested with a mechanical firing mechanism, temperature measurement, shooting in a triangle with a certain impact distance, and a speedometer. These tests are conducted on bulletproof windows, walls, facade elements, and doors. Attention is also paid to the connection of the different elements.

Depending on your risk profile, we choose together with you the resistance class that your situation requires and that fits your ambition.
