Quick evacuation with an accurate evacuation system

A good evacuation system is indispensable in a commercial building. If an unexpected fire breaks out, people should leave the premises as quickly and orderly as possible. An evacuation system with an evacuation alarm, a well thought-out evacuation plan, clear escape route plans and regular evacuation drills are then essential.

Mactwin helps you write evacuation plans, create escape route plans and design, install and maintain the evacuation system and all associated systems.

Evacuation system according to NEN 2575

Every evacuation system advised and implemented by Mactwin naturally complies with the requirements of NEN 2575. This contains requirements for the design, implementation, compatibility and quality of evacuation alarm systems.

Dynamic evacuation

Responding to an incident is customized; both for the follow-up and for the choice to evacuate and how. After all, evacuation is a tough tool that significantly disrupts an organization. You only evacuate when it is really necessary and then no more (people, buildings or building parts) than necessary. How to evacuate depends on the type of incident, the location and the severity of the incident. A standard evacuation plan is more or less static and therefore does not suffice in every situation. After all, incidents by no means always go according to plan….

Therefore, for large, complex organization where different types of incidents are possible, we recommend scenario-dependent or dynamic evacuation. In doing so, however, it is important to base your decisions on reliable information about the incident. It can come from your own FAFS organization, but also from intelligent systems such as those for incident response management and situation management (PSIM).

Evacuation Plan

The Occupational Health and Safety Act requires companies of any industry to have an evacuation plan. That plan describes who should take what action in the event of an emergency. It includes tasks, instructions and escape route plans. For each building, the evacuation plan looks different, but by default the following topics should be covered:

  • Situation drawing
  • Building, plant and organizational data
  • Internal and external alert procedure
  • Method of evacuation and evacuation organization
  • Staff duties
  • Escape route plans

Evacuation drills

Having an evacuation system and evacuation plan is no guarantee that the evacuation of a building will go smoothly in the event of a real emergency. As a user and as an employer, your organization is required (by the Occupational Health and Safety Act) to organize regular evacuation drills. A good guideline is to do this at least once a year and also to record it properly in connection with possible liabilities in the event of an incident. This ensures optimal preparation in the event of a real evacuation alarm.
