Laws and Regulations

When it comes to fire safety, there is much regulation. But legislation differs from object to object. Offices must comply to other conditions than a health care institution, for example. This has to do with the use of an object and the associated fire risk. Depending upon this, more or less (legal) requirements are imposed on the object.

The Building Decree 2012 describes the fire safety requirements per object in detail. For example regulations regarding the use of buildings and grounds or the (technical) equipment such as fire alarm and evacuation systems. The Building Decree also includes requirements for compartmentation, the strength of a building and about escape routes.

The NEN 2535 standard gives rules for the design, realisation, compatibility and the quality of the fire detection system to install. This standard is applicable to autonomous fire detection systems in buildings which are not integrated with other systems.

The NEN 2654-1 standard gives requirements for management, control and maintenance of fire detection and alarm systems. This standard is applicable to autonomous fire detection and alarm systems in offices, homes for the elderly, hotels, hospitals and industrial buildings.
